Taking advantage of terrain, sneaking close to lay down some mines first and then luring them into them, taking them out as they came around corners, taking cover to reload and recover AP, actually using those drugs like Jet and Morphine, etc. I could still win but I had to be careful and think it through. Suddenly trying to take out an abandoned house full of raiders at an earlier level was truly frightening. When I played FO3 I gave up on FWE twice and then tried it again and stuck with it for a bit and I never played the game without it again.
Sometimes it might feel like they are over the top but it might just be a matter of getting used to it and changing your strategies. PLAY WITH THEM FOR A COUPLE OF LEVELS BEFORE YOU MAKE UP YOUR MIND. One thing I would recommend with whatever difficulty increasing mods you go with.
